Wendy Nix Director of Adult and Family Programs NAMI Oklahoma Bachelors in Social Work
As the spouse of an Army soldier for 25 years Mrs. Nix has gained a wealth of experience in both private and public sector. She started her career providing employment placement and training to individual with psychiatric disabilities, developmental disabilities and Traumatic Brain Injury. In 2007, after her husband’s second deployment she was asked to join the Family Program team as the state Family Assistance Coordinator. As the Family Assistance Coordinator, Wendy provided support, resource and referral assistance and case management services to the families of the Oklahoma National Guard (OKNG) and other branches of service. Her time with the OKNG included the largest deployment of troops from Oklahoma since the Korean War with over 3500 OKNG deployed together. Six years after beginning with the Family Program office she switched gears to focus more time on her children who both have been diagnosed with mental illness. Wendy volunteers for the OKNG Child and Youth Program helping with many of the events they plan that provide opportunities for the kids to connect with others who understand what they are going through. Mrs. Nix has also spent time as a mentor for first time juvenile offenders and worked for the Early Head Start Prenatal to Three program providing education and case management to low income families. Mrs. Nix joined the NAMI Oklahoma state organization as the Director of Adult and Family Programs in January 2013.
